This is a landscape design project for a residential complex in Tainan, Taiwan, near Anping Port, with a rich historical heritage. The design team drew on Taiwan’s long-standing cultural memory to develop the concept of "sea drifting seeds taking root and fish migrating to Anping to return to the ecology.” From the first floor of the residential building to the sky garden on the top floor, the three images of "sea drifting seeds landing,” "sprouting and growing,” and "returning to ecology by breaking the chrysalis" are expressed to create a story of space through the progressive landscape presentation. The open street space is planned outside the building, and the green belt and installation art are introduced to show the unique natural landscape design. The team’s ingenuity combines the pavement design of stone and high-pressure permeable brick in different shades with the island-like green belt to create a smooth curving aesthetic for the pedestrian walkway. In addition, the landscape facilities, such as plantings of various colors, fish sculptures, and mirror pond water features, create a rich and harmonious landscape appearance. In addition, individuals could enjoy the greenery when walking along the shaded walkway or in the indoor sitting space. Among them, the "migratory fish" sculpture in the planting area in front of the landscape pond is an extension of the image of Anping Harbor in Tainan, Taiwan. It increases the public's access to the trail, gives ornamental value, and creates scenic diversity. It also echoes the characteristics of the local fish farming industry and the meaning of "returning to the roots.” The fish installation is made of stainless steel and is distributed among the planting areas. With the natural light at different times of the day, it appears as a school of fish swimming in the green waves, adding a sense of visual dynamics and spatial interest.
